Working Women - Book Recommendation!

I just finished this book and highly recommend for any woman in the workplace: "Designed for Success" by Dondi Scumaci. It offers great advice and wisdom. I found myself laughing at some of the examples, seeing me in them. All women should read this, find their areas to improvement, and go for what they are looking for in a career!

Operation Mass Transfer

I'm attempting to get back in running shape! After a good 2 month break (while doing other work outs) I'm back into running. First event is a 5K this Sunday that my work is participating in. Actually ran 3.1 miles tonight with Abbey in 34 minutes. I'm hoping to run Sunday's race in 31 minutes or so - a nice 10 min mile pace! Wish me luck - I'll need it! Now the question is, will I be motivated after Sunday?

I am back to work full time now. It is tough leaving Keaton everyday but we have a good routine going! Rick drops Keaton off around 7 and I pick up at 5ish. He is at a family home daycare near our house with 5 other kids and is the only infant. I hear he is doing great and a very flexible and happy baby. That makes it so much easier to go into work.

I'm at 27 weeks!!! Only 13 more weeks to go. I can't wait! Rick and my goal this month is to complete the nursery. We're hoping to at least go find some paint swatches today... We'll see if we can accomplish this. :)

Wow! It's been awhile. Obviously it's not as easy to keep a blog up to date as I thought! I've been consumed with the house, our new dog, Abbey, and the pregnancy.

I completed the 30-day challenge and ran 102.35 miles. I can't believe it!! Today was my last day and I just had to run a short 3 mile run. I was so afraid I would be faced with 10 miles my last day. My sweet husband even had a card waiting for me when I got home. He said he tried to find a finish line but no luck... I'm a lucky girl :)

I read an interesting article in the LA Times last week about typography and what your font says about you. First of all, how does one become a typographer? Second of all, how does one create a font? I want to create my own font! I might call it Crowe Sans...

I used to use Arial at work but after reading it was "dispassionate" I had to change! What if I could close more deals simply by changing my font to a more passionate one? 2003 Word unfortunately does not allow Gothem, which is Obama's campaign font of choice. My only requirements were that I needed a professional font with large "o's" as those are deemed trustworthy. My final choice was MS Sans Serif. So now let the experiment begin! Will I be seen as a different person? Will you be seen as I different person if you change your font? Just please, I beg you, no Comic Sans, letterhead, or religious quotes on work email!

25 is an Unhappy Number

So one of my engineers just sent an email explaining happy numbers and unhappy numbers. A happy number is when the sequence eventually equals 1. To equate, simply square the number's digits, and add them together, and then take the result and square its digits and add them together, and keep doing that over and over again.

An example of a happy number is the number 23:
2x2 + 3x3 = 13
1x1 + 3x3 = 10
1x1 + 0x0 = 1!

Sadly, 25 is an unhappy as it goes around in an endless cycle. Does this mean my entire year of being 25 was doomed for unhappiness? Maybe 26 will be better? Let's see!

4x4 + 0x0 = 16
1x1 + 6x6 = 37
3x3 + 7x7 = 58
5x5 + 8x8 = 89
8x8 + 9x9 = 145

I signed up for the Asics "Run 100 miles in 30 days" challenge and started on Saturday. Over the last 3 days I've ran 10.5 miles. I hope to keep it up as I needed a motivator to get over my lackluser 2.7 mile run 3 days a week. Pray for me :) I don't think I'll hit the 100 mile goal.. but I know I'll be proud of myself if I even get over 60! Our Trip! - Day 4-11 (Prague)

We had an amazing time! We visited just about all of Prague - Mala Strana and Lesser Town the first day, Old Town and the Jewish quarters the 2nd day, took the train to Plzen on day 3, and saw Wenceslas Square and went to the Opera our last day! Although we got slightly lost in Plzen trying to find the Pilsner Urquell brewery the trip was almost flawless.

Our 3rd day we toured some of the surrounding areas of Geisenfeld. We visited a memorial built after Napoleon was defeated, a castle, and Regensberg - one of the oldest cities in Bavaria.

The second day of our trip the weather wasn't cooperating so we stayed in most of the day plus walked walked around Geisenfeld, located about 20 miles from Munich. But we got to see Rick's 2nd cousin, her husband, and baby!

We arrived in Munich around 6pm on Thursday and were picked up by our wonderful hosts, Karl and Helga. The next day we headed out to Munich! We saw the BMW Headquarters, Marienplatz, the Rathouse, and the Residence. We ended the day at the Hofbrauhaus, of course!

What would winter/spring be without AI? Now that auditions are over I am finally starting to watch. All I can say is Paula is crazy! I still wonder why she was chosen as a judge. Did nobody else want it - they didn't realize how big of a show AI would become? I must admit, I liked Paula when I was young and still remember watching "Rush" on VH1 top videos Sunday afternoons. However, I heard that song on XM last week and it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Was she ever an idol?
If anyone cares... my early faves are the Australian guy (Mike?), the Irish girl (Carla?), and David. My least favorite is Josiah. What do the judges see in him? My favorite flashback was Buck who was trying to be the next Bucky. Haha!

I have to admit that I loved the wrestling challenge in last week's Project Runway. I am ready for Sweet P. to go... but then I don't want Chris, Christian, Rami, or Jillian to go. Maybe it will be a 4-way tie and all will go to Bryant Park. I am excited that I can see the finale before our trip to Prague.

American Gladiator is great also. Those people are fierce! Open cast call is this weekend in LA. Too bad I can't make. I really want to try that Eliminator! Hellga is by far my favorite gladiator. 205 lbs!! Can you imagine?

Well... with the writer's strike I really think I could do without ever seeing another Lost, Office, or 24 episode. As long as I have these 3 shows... and Arrested Development on DVD.

The patio problem is fixed also - there will not be a hole the day we move in. I'm so glad it poured before our inspection or else we would have had to deal with the pipe problem ourselves. Other than the patio the place is pretty much turn-key.

So Rick and I have started looking at properties to purchase! It's really excited yet scary because of the SoCal market. Come on - imagine what I could purchase anywhere else in the country? We found one condo that we really like so we'll see how that goes. I hope I don't lose my mind with all the paperwork that will be involved.

Southern California was hit with 8 fires from Santa Barbara through San Diego today due to the dry weather and strong winds. My work was evacuated today due to a fire near Irvine. Unfortunately the Irvine fire was started by arsonists. Here is a picture from Huntington Beach looking south towards Irvine.

Worst sports weekend EVER

Angels get swept by Boston, UCLA loses to a winless Notre Dame at home, and USC loses to Stanford at home. I had gone to all 44 home games since becoming a USC fan until today. I guess I am the reason we lost. Simmers says it best "Local teams put the LOSS in Los Angeles."

Running Month

September 2007 has been my official running month. On 9/1 I ran 5K (3.1 miles) in the Kevin Cook Spirit Run

Then on 9/15 I ran 5 miles in the Nike Run hit remix. This race was fun as there were bands playing along the course with a finish line concert by MC Hammer!
